Special Place

stories by GoldFrost

Flying. Suspended with only my will. I flew into an auditorium following someone else who was flying. I flew behind a curtain and found myself on the outside. All the time I get a feeling that I must be somewhere. I was in a car driving down an asphalt road with barren fields on both sides. I stopped, opened the door and reached my hand down to the road and noticed the whole road was strewn with pins. I thought to myself that I was lucky I wasn’t walking barefoot. I continued to drive on and went through an intersection without stopping. I noticed there was a yield sign in the rearview mirror and thought, ‘oh well, lucky there was not cars coming’. I turned around in a vacated gas station. I felt I had to get back. I pulled onto a dirt road with high reeds on both sides. A car was coming down the road towards me. I gave it room. I continued on and had a feeling I was driving into Japans’ territory. A thought went running through my head over and over, ‘I wish we never bombed Pearl Harbor’. I continued on and the reeds gave way to flatland where the sun was rising. I now felt I was in a territory owned by Japan.

I emerged from the curtain back into the auditorium flying and following no one. The thought continued running through my head ‘should never have bombed Pearl Harbor’.

I looked over to my right towards an orange hazy section of the vast auditorium. To my side and above my level in the orange haze, there were squadrons upon squadrons of bombers and fighter planes. It was the Japanese military going to bomb Pearl Harbor. On top of one of the bombers was standing a person wielding a long harpoon-like spear. He was thrusting and jabbing and exclaiming loudly what he was going to do to the Americans. He looked over at me and I knew I was in danger.

I was now flying right above the fighter planes towards the guy and the harpoon. He carried a grin filled with malice. I flew up close to him and flipped him the bird. He grinned and shouted, “I’m gonna poke you!” as he lunged towards me with his long spear. I knew I made a mistake and the only the only thing I could do was twist my torso and let the spear graze my chest. Before I could twist back he quickly made another lunch. He missed the second time as he grazed my back. I turned away as fast as I could will myself. I wanted to fly away from here. Soon as I left the planes I glanced back and saw him still on the bomber. I flipped him the bird again and he came running at me infuriated. I flipped him off yet again as he was coming closer, dancing over the tops of the planes. I quickly made for the door before he could catch me. He was right behind me. I burst through the door into daylight and flew high into the air. He was right behind me up to the door. He then saw me high in the air and he just stood there with a grin of adversary admiration. He said some spiteful words and went back inside. I flew back down towards the door curious about something though I didn’t know what. Suddenly, the door flew open and a tall skinny guy came out. His sudden appearance startled me so I flew up again. He yelled at me “Asshole!” He couldn’t reach me. I then had a feeling that something was trying to catch me. I had to get away as far and as fast as possible. I flew into the air then I noticed a huge hill close by with many trees on it. I flew towards the hill, among the trees, then upwards as I skimmed low over the ground. I could feel there were people still following. I reached the top of the hill and there were more trees.

I noticed there was no grass at all on the hill. Just long needles from the trees. I was hovering just above the ground curious about the needles. I could feel a females’ presence towards my right. I sensed no feeling that she was after me. I felt she had no malice so I didn’t fear her. I lowered myself to the ground and I knew the best thing to do was to just be by her side. I bent over and picked up some needles and twisted them through my fingers. She said, “They’re all over the area.” And I knew she wasn’t talking about the needles. Suddenly, I heard a large cracking sound from above as if something was falling down through the branches. A blonde headed guy jumped down in front of me and exclaimed, “Ah ha! I gotcha!” He reached for me and I blocked his hands and jumped into the air. People were all around the area now and the girl was gone. I tried sensing her by feelings but she was nowhere near. All through my contact with her I sensed a feeling of love. Even though we parted, I felt it was temporary. The love was still there. Suddenly I felt the urge I was to be somewhere. I flew among the trees towards my left. The hill took a steep dive and at the bottom was a winding river. I circled back into the trees searching. Then I found what I was looking for. There was a little girl lost among the trees with no parents and no guardians. She was not crying and I could feel inside that she had a strong will and determination. I flew low and took her up into my arms. She was very happy to see me.

Her name was Tristine. We communicated not with words but through thought. Her home lies on the other side of the river. I felt the pursuers close behind again. I flew off down the hill towards the river. It was wide and on the other side were three houses. Hers’ was in the middle. I flew towards the place. Hover over it I noticed there was a baby bottle near one of the entrances. I sat her down there. “Don’t leave me!” came her painful thoughts. The feeling of love was among her thoughts also. The river held up the pursuers but it didn’t deter them. I still had time. I circled the house once and realized that it was vacant. So were the others I now knew. I went back down and picked Tristine back up. She put her arms tightly around me and she said through her thoughts “I love you!”

We took off and I was determined to find her mother. The pursuers were closing in again. It became late evening then darkness fell completely. All my searching lead me back to the hill with the trees. The pursuers were long gone and possibly had given up. I was flying among the trees holding Tristine. She was quiet, strong willed, and a bundle of joy. I was getting tired when I saw a light among the trees. I flew towards it. I could make out the faint image of a vendor stand, like a hotdog stand but it did not have the usual items. There was something more to it. A figure stepped out of the shadows and stopped me before I reached it. I was flying low to the ground. I stopped and lowered myself to a standing position with Tristine in my arms. I looked at the figure and its’ features were hidden among the shadows. I knew it to be her mother. I could feel this place was safe and no one will unintentionally or purposefully find it without her communities’ assent. I handed Tristine to her.

“Thank you,” she said.

Tears started flowing from Tristine’s eyes and down her cheeks. “Don’t leave me,” she said. I wiped the tears from her cheek with the back of my hand and a tear rolling down mine.

“I don’t want to,” I said. I gently kissed her cheek.

“Don’t leave,” she said pleaded softly.

I could feel that love permeates this whole area. Why didn’t I notice it before?

Then I sensed the girl I met before is also here. She loves me too.
