How I long for sweet, silent night to wrap me again in anonymous
darkness!
To re-live a stolen hour outside place and time.
Back to that moment my mind harks, then;
When I was thine and thou wert mine;
The whole world by our arms entwined and sealed with a stolen kiss.
Night, now, is more mine enemy than my friend;
For by my bounden duty forbidden is such bliss!
Night drags hourly on, seemingly without end.
Thoughts of thy fair form and face,
Cleave my heart in twain, and
Unbidden, my restless thoughts do grace.
Till I, sleepless, by my window stand,
Caring not at what the cost.
Thus, sweet one, am I lost
