True Friend
How can I tell you all the things I feel?
You make me laugh, you make me smile,
you make me feel good deep down inside.
Whether we're having a snowball fight, listening
to your wonderful words, or just softly
stroking your hair
As long as we're together I am happy.
If I could remove the hurt and the pain
I would.
If I could shelter you from all the storms
I would.
If I could be there whenever you need a friend
I would.
But as a true friend, I cannot do that.
The hurt you must endure, the pain you must learn.
The storms you must learn to navigate.
And at times you must do this alone.
But as a true friend, I can ease the burdens.
If the load is too much, let me carry it for a while.
If the skies are laden with heavy rains, let me
provide you calm harbor for a brief respite.
If a shoulder to cry on is what you need,
rest it gently on mine.
Thank you for being there, thank you for allowing me in.
But most of all, thank you for being a True Friend.
