Soul Mate
In the darkness
I am running.
Through the trees
through the shadows.
I know not why.
A branch breaks my pace
and I stumble,
Yet I do not hit the ground.
Instead I fall into a pit.
Many soft leaves break my fall
and on my hands and knees I glance around.
Quiet, stillness,
But I feel a presence there.
I turn my head and there she is!
One that has visited me so long ago!
Formless without shape, her presence hovers before me.
"I know you from a long time ago," said I to the spirit.
For a while she did not speak, then she replied
"Yes my Love, it is I"
A feeling of warmth touches my face and the
forest disappears.
"It has been so long since I felt you, where have
you been?" I asked sadly.
"Trying to keep up with you, is not an easy task,"
she replied.
My thoughts, confused without understanding,
she explained
"I attempted to manifest myself into those
you were with."
"But you moved on too fast before I could appear."
I sadly nodded in agreement as I looked
back at the failed past.
Afraid to hurt I was, afraid to Love.
"I was with you in the last one you were
with. You were able to sit still long
enough that at last we felt each other
in physical form."
"Yet, eventually your fears took hold again,
you got hurt and you ran."
I nodded slowly in agreement
a tear rolling down my cheek.
"My spirit wailed, and my heart crushed,
I did not know if I should ever return
to you or not."
"But then I felt your saddened spirit
and I returned once again."
Lying in bed, her presence next to mine.
I know that this is nothing but a dream.
"Never do I want to wake up, I want to
stay here next to you forever," I sadly say.
"My Love, I will always be by your side.
I just ask that in the future, don't
be afraid to hurt. Work hard to be
with the one you are with and don't be
afraid to Love. Then I will return
and be with you again."
Her presence wrapped me in a cloak
and slowly I open my eyes.
